Japanese hashed beef rice

Japanese hashed beef “Hayashi rice is a dish that originated in Japan and is loved by all generations. It differs from hashed beef in that it is based on tomato sauce rather than demi-glace sauce. It looks similar, but tastes completely different. Hayashi rice has a sour taste and is a perfect dish for summer.

Japanese hashed beef rice
  • an Onion
  • 300g beef
  • a canned tomatoes
  • 200ml milk
  • a little salt and pepper
  • a tbsp soy source
  • 50g oyster source
  • 50g ketchup
  • 50g mirin
  • 10g stock cube
  • egg
  • mayonnaise
  • rice


You don’t have to use Japanese parsleys. Try serving with your favorite ingredients. If you discover a combination that was delicious, please let us know! 

Step by Step Instructions

,Step 1

Cut onions and stir fry in the frying pan until changing gold brown.
add beef and stir fry too.

Step 2

Add onions, beef, tomato source, milk, salt, pepper, soy source, oyster source, ketchup,  mirin, and stock cube in  the pot.
Boil it until simmering.

Step 3

While the mixture is simmering in the pot, mix the eggs and mayonnaise to make a fried egg.

Step 4

Serve eggs and hashed sauce on top of rice and you are done!

In Japan, Hayashi rice is often served in summer school lunches. This can be attributed to the fact that the beef  is rich in protein and the tomato sauce has antibacterial properties. It is recommended when you want to feel energetic and build up your strength.
